Carlos de Haes (Brussels, 1826-Madrid, 1898) is one of the most important landscape painter of the second half of the nineteenth century. From the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid influenced many artists as Aureliano de Beruete, Dario de Regoyos or Jaume Morera, his favorite disciple. Its capital is contained in the renewal of the genre of landscape painting in Spain. Haes had a good command of both the drawing pencil and engraving. Proof of this set piece in which is reflected an interest in the landscape. Her themes are always, roads, trees, paths, boulders and rural type. Used for drawing sketches fast and as preparation for prints..
The Carlos de Haes pictoric collection is composed of a set of 11 drawings and 13 prints, all of them small format, which together with other documents are part of the legacy Tarragó. The fund Jose Alfonso Tarragó Pleyan was given to the Institute the year 1985 by the executors of his will. It was logical to think that this was the institution which hosted its heritage given the close ties maintained over the years. Tarragó was editor-in of its chapters founding in 1942, and Secretary-General from the year 1950. The Carlos de Haes pictoric collection was installed, together with the help of the Museum lecions Morera, in the Hospital Santa Maria in 1934 with the intention to host, on a provisional basis, funds from the Museum. During the Civil War the collection was transferred to Butsenit and later at Zaragoza, in order to prevent their harm. Once the war finished, Josep Alfons Tarragó Pleyan, delegate from the Servicio de Defensa del Patrimonio Artístico National, returns the collection to the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs.
